PCM 09-25-2011 Beyond just friends with God
The short version: One of the advantages of a close friendship is trust, the more you do the less fearful you will be when things seem to go wrong. Being close to God is a choice, your choice, your decision. It is your life, your freedom, your feelings of comfort or concern.
The more indepth version:
Here are some things that should describe your friendship, love and trust with God. Keep these in your mind till they get into your heart. True friends look out for each other, keep God at the center of your world, things eventually will make sense someday. ....TRUST ME....
John 15:15 NIV [I would also suggest seeing what these verses are like in the message]
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
Psalm 63:1-8 NIV
1 O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
Psalm 9:10 NIV
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you
Psalm 27:1-8 NIV
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.
4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.
6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.
7 Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me.
8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek.
I am letting the Bible do most of the explaining, God has a better handle on the explanations than I do and He will speak to your heart if you let Him.
With love and friendship,
Bill Sullivan
